And About the Holidays ...
Let's talk about my holidays.
Friday, I have to wait at the new house from the cable guy from 2 - 5pm. Being that this is Comcast, whose actual cable/internet performance is the ONLY thing that keeps me coming back, I can imagine that I'll be lucky if he appears during those times, if he appears at all. Did I ever tell you the story about how we busted our hours, driving our convoy straight through on a 16 hour trip and I was hopped up on Vivarain and Red Bull trying to make it here to SC from PA in time to meet the cable guy, who NEVER SHOWED UP? So ... yea.
So as of Friday evening, there will be no cable or Internet here at the apartment but it will be our last night sleeping here. Quite a bit of our stuff is packed and already moved over but there are still things being used that aren't packed. And there always looks like there's less of everything until you start trying to put it into boxes.
Saturday morning, I have to be awake, finished packing everything (including last minute things, like the sheets from the bed and our bathroom/kitchen stuff) and over the house (about a fifteen minute drive) by 7am to WAIT for our new furniture delivery (so excited!). We ordered two full-size couches, a king size bed and mattress, a tall dresser, a long bureau and a mirror and they gave us a delivery time of 7am to 10pm on Saturday. The truck is coming from Charlotte. Part of me is thinking they won't be here right at 7am, but if I don't get there, knowing my luck, they will. I'm just hoping they show up earlier than later.
Saturday afternoon, I go and pick up the truck with either my dad or Steve and depending on if the furniture has been delivered, either head back to the house or come to the apartment with them to start moving. Hopefully, everything will be moved out of here by Saturday night and then we will spend our first night in the new house in our brand new bed (so, so excited!).
Sunday, or sometime after that, I need to come back to the apartment to clean it top to bottom and get it ready to be returned to the property company. I also need to schedule to get the utilities turned off here.
Then there's Christmas shopping, which has been to be done one or two weeknights. A lot of people are done - Steve and most of the kids I have to buy for.
We're not putting up a tree this year or any decorations, if only because I don't want to add more stress to what's already there. We will be in the middle of unpacking and getting settled into the house anyway so trying to make it all Christmas-y amongst cardboard isn't going to work. Which is kind of disappointing but we're going to be in PA over Christmas and we'll have Christmas at my parents and my dad's so I'm sure we'll get our fill of Christmas. Just to get a little into the spirit though, I want to go to the Festival of Lights, which is a tradition every year and I'm not about to break it this year. Oh, and Christmas Cards. Ahhh, my OCD is kicking in.
Then we'll be in North Carolina the weekend of the 15th, from Friday to Saturday. Which means those gifts have to be bought before then.
And we'll be in Pennsylvania from December 21st to December 30th. This is the first time we'll be back since we left and I'm so excited. However, I'm not looking forward to that drive but we haven't had to do it in a few years, so I should be able to handle it.
And then we come back and have New Year's to celebrate in our new house!!
I'm excited for everything but I will be relieved when it's over.
