Makes Me Want a Hot Dog Real Bad!
I can be thankful for the holiday week. With the Fourth falling on a Wednesday, most people are on vacation and things have been relatively slow. I say relatively because it's like a tropical storm instead of a hurricane. Regardless, tomorrow is Friday and despite the fact that I do have to work all day tomorrow AND tomorrow night, I am grateful for that. I will make sure NOT to mess things up this weekend so that I do not have to spend all day Saturday working like I did last weekend.
I need a vacation. Bad. But it's not happening anytime soon. I don't even know what I'd do or if I'd go anywhere. It seems kind of pointless because I know all I'd do is work around the house. I've got these grand plans to blow through everything and reorganize this place. And do I really want to waste vacation days on that? I'd be getting something accomplished around the house but I wouldn't really be relaxing. Ah well, we shall see.
I thought I was really doing well with writing everyday but I slacked. It was a holiday so that's my excuse. Tuesday evening, we had dinner at my parents and watched Shooter with Mark Wahlberg. What an awesome movie! The story was great and the action was so fun to watch. I love riveting action packed movies like that. It was definitely one of the best I've rented in awhile. You should check it out.
Hope everyone had a good Fourth of July. We spent the day on the boat. I foolishly forgot to put on sunblock or sunscreen. By the time I remembered, we were already speeding down the river and it was too late. I'm paying for it now. The sunburn looks worse than it is though my forehead is probably the worst. It's already blistering. I look like a freak. And that was only an hour outside. By the time I realized I was getting baked, I started covering myself up with towels. Once I came home and took a cool shower, it manifested into the pink flare that it is now. I really have vowed to be careful about my skin because we know better these days. But sometimes, I just forget because my mother is a sun worshipper and most of my young life was spent being sunburnt one time at the beginning of summer than tan for the rest of it.
The rivers were really choppy yesterday so my body is all banged up from that as well. Sometimes you don't realize the toll boating can take on you until you wake up the next day feeling like you were in a car accident.
I digress though. Despite the projected negativity, we really did have a great time. It was a gorgeous day for boating and we stopped at a little island about ten miles up the river and just floated around and had lunch. And we just generally zoomed around enjoying the day.
We brought the dog out for the first time. He loved the wind blowing in his face and really got into just hanging out as we were cruising around. I think the noise bothered him a bit and he is definitely not a water dog. If he even got sprayed, he was ducking into the corner. We bought a little doggy life jacket for him. It has a handle on the top and I just picked him up like a suitcase and put him in the water near Steve. He didn't do anything, just floated there and didn't move, like a log. Poor guy! Now we at least know. It cooled him off though so I didn't feel too bad about it.
Later, we walked down the road for the big Patriot's Point fireworks show. We are fortunate enough to live near where they're building the new memorial park and there is a great view of the Yorktown and where they were shooting the fireworks off. We were there for about an hour and did the typical oohing and aahing. We left Sammy at home because he is terrified of fireworks and thunder and we didn't want to traumatize him even more.
Overall, it was a good holiday. Was yours?
Thanks for the directions to Liberty!
(and I also suck all the mine ice cream off the chocolate chips and spit them back into the bowl! I thought I was the only one who did that! I think we just might be soul mates.)
