Welcome to Kallure
Kallure is a personal weblog that has been in existence since July 2001. I had a few other sites around the web before that but Kallure is the end all, be all of my web presence. It is not going away anytime soon.
I do this because it gives me the opportunity to document my journey as I grow and change from a college freshman to an actual grownup trying to make it in this world. I do this publically because the pressure of updating almost forces me to write. I’m good with deadlines.
Aside from this, Kallure also houses my art, writing, photographs and other random things I find amusing. It is my online playground.
Kallure has no particular meaning. I just put my first initial in front of the world allure and pronounce it likes it’s spelled (Kuh-loor). I was trying to be unique and original. Apparently, that’s what you get when creating a domain name in one afternoon.
Design Credits
I keep things a lot more simple around here than I used to. It used to be because I wanted to focus more on the writing but I haven’t been good with keeping up with that so basically it’s because it’s easier to maintain and update. I still wish I could do more design heavy sites but I don’t have the time and that overwhelming schedule tends to stifle my creativity anyway.
That being said, this layout is not mine. It is a WordPress template by Brain Gardner that I ported to Movable Type and heavily modified.
The owl logo is by an artist named Yiying Lu and I bought it from her portfolio on iStockPhoto. She does amazing work but I really love the owl illustration. Aside from it being cute and kind of appropriate for my mood right now, my college mascot was also the Owl.
The fonts used in the header are Honey Script and Orator Std. The site was designed in Internet Explorer for a minimal 1024 resolution and should be cross-browser compatible.
Other Credits
The site is published using Movable Type 4.0.1 by SixApart. I have not migrated to WordPress mainly because they don’t offer multiple blog installations inside one WordPress install. I also don’t feel like learning a new template system. Because I’m lazy and can do Movable Type in my sleep.
But I’m jealous of many other WordPress features and would migrate in a heartbeat if I knew I could build it into a CMS like I did with Movable Type. Perhaps that’s an experiment for the future.
The absolutely wonderful and highly recommended Insider Hosting provides space and the domain name is registered through GoDaddy. All code is created, clipped and mangled in Notepad and I’ve been using SmartFTP for years to manage site uploads and files.
Images and photographs are manipulated in Adobe Photoshop CS3. All pictures are taken with either a Sony DSC-P200 or a Canon Digital Rebel XTi with a Canon 50mm f1.4 lens.
